The Academy Motorsport ORLEN protégé won his third race during the second round of the F4 Spanish Championship at the Navarra track, held on 2nd-4th May. In addition to the victory, Jan Przyrowski won the podium in the 2nd race (3rd place) and fifth place in the final competition.
Competitiveness from the very beginning
At the very start of the race weekend, the Polish driver showed strong performance, winning the first test session. Then, in Saturday’s qualifying, he fought for pole position until the very end, ultimately winning 3rd starting position. It was from this position that he began the fight in the first race on the Navarra track. At the start, Jan Przyrowski maintained his position, and at the beginning of the 7th lap he overtook Thomas Strauven. After this maneuver, only the leader Rene Lammers remained ahead of him. The son of a former F1 driver and one of the promoters of the Dutch GP, Jan, had built up an advantage of almost 2.5 seconds. By Formula 4 standards, this is quite a big advantage, which is difficult to make up. However, the driver from Rossoszyca did it and reduced it, and then pressed the leader.
Several overtaking attempts were close to the end, but each time, somehow, the Dutchman kept the Griffin Core by Campos driver behind him. In some cases, the Pole’s rival would go off the track and defend himself thanks to the advantage he gained. This did not escape the attention of the judges, who carefully examine the issues of track limits. This is almost as restrictive as in Formula 1. Finally, after the race, Lammers received a time penalty, and Jan Przyrowski, driving flawlessly, won the competition on the Constitution Day of the Third of May.
Jan Przyrowski on the podium in another start
Sunday began with the second qualifying, which provided us with an incredibly exciting fight for pole position. Ultimately, Jan Przyrowski came in 4th, but his loss was only 0.143 seconds. However, it was still a good starting position for the final race. The driver from Rossoszyca still had two more competitions ahead of him, which he entered from the first row. After the start, the 16-year-old fought with Strauven and Lammers. Ultimately, he was incredibly close to beating the former, because at the finish line the difference was only a few dozen thousandths of a second. Third place was still a very good result.
The third race took place at the end of the weekend, and it was quite chaotic. There was a lack of pace and luck in a few situations for Przyrowski to be on the podium for the third time on the Navarra track. Ultimately, the protégé of the Academy Motorsport ORLEN came fifth with a small loss to his rivals ahead.
Impressions after the second round of the season
– I rate the last round quite well. I managed to win the first race, in the second one the pace was a bit lacking and I finished 3rd, and in the third race there was a lot of chaos after the start and again the pace was lacking and I won 5th place. Overall I am happy – I managed to win a lot of points for the championship – said Jan Przyrowski after the second round of the Spanish Formula 4 at the Navarra track in Los Arcos.
– Of course, my goal for Portimao is the same – I want to score as many points as possible during the entire weekend. The fight for pole position, podiums and victories is within reach. The track itself is very specific – a lot of “blind” turns uphill and downhill. It may not be my favourite track, but it is not bad either. During the break I will train on the simulator and in the gym. I do not have any tests before Portimao. I would like to thank ORLEN, ORLEN Motorsport Academy, Geothermal Solutions, Repiński Transport and all the fans for their invaluable support – added the 16-year-old from Rossoszyca.
Polish driver high in the general stantings
Currently, Jan Przyrowski is in 3rd place in the general classification of the Spanish Formula 4. The driver from Rossoszyca has collected a total of 90 points, including 47 in Los Arcos. The gap to Rene Lammers and Thomas Strauven, who are ahead of him, is not big. The Pole and the two aforementioned rivals shuffle almost every race for the title of the “general classification” leader.
Jan Przyrowski returns to competition in June
On June 6-8, the 16-year-old will compete on the Algarve track in Portimao. During the E4 Spanish Winter Championship, Jan Przyrowski already got to know the taste of victory on this track. The goal is to fight for pole position and further triumphs in the F4 Spanish Championship and take the lead in the general standings.
