Jan Przyrowski proved that you can overcome any difficult situation, and even make a comeback from the back of the grid, competing for points. The ORLEN Motorsport Academy protégé advanced a total of 34 positions this weekend. This performance was very impressive; his maturity and perfect situational judgment distinguished the Polish driver during the round at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. Of all the FREC rounds so far, this was the race weekend that secured the most points for the driver from Rossoszyca.

An Italian rollercoaster. Jan Przyrowski was the hero

The beginnings at Monza weren’t easy. Thursday’s tests were spent searching for the perfect setup. Progress was made in morning practice on Friday. The Polish driver finished 9th, but it was clear he had some reserves. The session was interrupted by yellow and red flags. Before qualifying, the mood was good, and everyone at RPM was hungry for a strong result. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to fully demonstrate their potential, and Jan was blocked on his fastest lap. This meant 14th place in Group B and meant starting from the back of the grid for Saturday’s two races. Starting from 26th on the grid didn’t foreshadow what was to come.

In the first race, several dangerous situations arose, which the driver from Rossoszyca managed to avoid. This allowed him to make some mature decisions and advance to 19th place, and then climb the rankings at a rapid pace. Jan Przyrowski overtook his rivals and finished 8th. His race pace, embellished with the fastest lap time in the race, offered plenty of potential. No one had managed to advance so many places in a single race. After the race, the incidents were reviewed, and one of his rivals received a penalty. Ultimately, Jan advanced 19 places, securing 7th place and a valuable 7 points.

Saturday’s second race provided another opportunity to fight for improvement from 26th place. Almost everything was happening in the competition. Just as Przyrowski was close to the top 10, he was unfortunately pushed out and had to fight his way through a gravel trap. He finished 17th, but potential penalties for illegal conduct loomed over his rivals. Ultimately, after these penalties were taken into account, the ORLEN Motorsport Academy protégé finished 11th. The points were very close. His pace allowed him to set the 2nd fastest lap of the competition.

Sunday Strong from the Start

The final day of competition in Monza offered a chance for a new start. Jan Przyrowski’s pace was already very strong in qualifying. The 17-year-old had the third fastest time in his group, just 0.029 seconds off first. This meant he started from fifth on the grid. The start of the third race was very good. The Polish driver maintained his position and tried to put pressure on the rivals ahead of him. He was also under pressure from behind and was pushed off the track several times by a competitor. Ultimately, the stewards penalized the driver for breaking the rules. Jan Przyrowski finished the race in fifth place, adding another 10 valuable points to his overall standings.

Jan Przyrowski happy with FREC round at Monza

“The beginning wasn’t easy for me and the RPM team. We were a bit unlucky in the first qualifying and fell a bit short, which made Saturday’s task more difficult. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the pace was in the first two races. Once, I went from P26th to P7th, and the second time, if not for the pushes, it could have been similar, but in P11th we were just a hair’s breadth away from the points. However, we knew we had the pace and could create a chance to fight for the top spots on Sunday,” said Jan Przyrowski after the round at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.

“On Sunday, we did well in qualifying. The pace was very good, and I was just shy of P1 in my group. Before the race, I knew I had to do my part and manage all the parts well. I had a chance to fight for the podium at the end, if not for an overreaching attempt from a rival behind me that forced me to save myself. Afterward, I did everything I could to get back in the fight and managed to finish P5, but it could have been even better. Again, just like in Spa, the podium was close, and I believe there are still many good moments ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my partners for their support: ORLEN, the ORLEN Motorsport Academy, PZM and Geothermal Solutions, the Łódź Economic Zone, Repiński Transport, Samarite, ENEXA, WTC System, Stilo, and Ansite!” added the 17-year-old Polish driver.

Next Round: Hungaroring

In less than two weeks, the Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) returns to competition. This time, Jan Przyrowski and his rivals will face off at the Hungarian Hungaorring circuit near Budapest. The Polish driver will be making his debut at the venue. The goal is to fight for the highest possible positions and ensure he can compete with the leaders from the start of the weekend.
